A Million Emotions with Zero Words: Perlman

Many have heard of the one saying, “a picture has a thousand words”, yet not many people have said the same about music. Yet, last night, while listening to Itzhak Perlman, I truly felt a million emotions and had so many different visuals in my head.

One of the visuals in my head was during his first song that he played.  It sounded very proper and right off of the bat I had thought that I was just attending a classical music concert.  Oh, had I been mistaken!  Throughout the playing of just the first song, I felt emotions of intrigue, curiosity, as well as images of an renaissance family having dinner.  I know, its weird. Yet, for some reason it came to mind.

The whole time, while experiencing the dancing of the notes in which Perlman played, my thoughts also danced as well.  From imagining places of happiness, like previous memories I have with my family, to places of grief, my thought took me on a rollercoaster ride.

It was the last thing that I expected to enjoy this performance.  I was excited to listen to Perlman play due to all of his accolades, yet I was nervous that I would get bored.  It was the complete opposite! I was kept entertained the entire night and I am so happy that I have this new found appreciation for his music!
