Illini Strings and UI Philharmonia

On Wednesday April 24, 2019, the Illini Strings and the UI Philharmonia Orchestra performed at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

The performance consisted of students at the university. Each group performed four pieces and made them their own. I like the performance by the Illini strings “Concerto Grosso No. 9 in G minor.” I like this performance the most because they changed it into something that would stand out. Before the started playing the conductor said this is the first time that the piece was every played like the group performed it. The piece was supposed to consist of a one person performing a solo based on the instrument they were playing and the rest of the group chime in. However, in this performance, the entire group with one instrument performed the solo and the rest of the group chimed in. The instruments in the Illini Strings performance consisted of the violin, viola, cello, and the bass.

One thing I did not like about the performance was the group did not look like a group because of clothing. Everyone had on a different color clothing item. even though they did not look like a group they performed like a group.
