This week has featured a multitude of concerts from the University of Illinois. The jazz groups, theatre productions, and musicals are all culminating and performing their final products. I had the opportunity to see the Concert Jazz Band perform at the Studio Theatre at Krannert Center this week as they performed jazz standards and classic big band arrangements. The musicians were very talented and well rehearsed, but my only problem was the tradionalist mindset of the director. While everyone is allowed to have their own opinions, he seemed to intentionally favor his music choices and selections to any other options. This was frustrating but did not take away from the talent that was showcased by the performers. A standout solo by Kevin King on Embraceable You by George Gershwin was a major highlight.
