We Are the Campus Sound
URBANA — PizzaFM recently celebrated their one-year streaming birthday. This station is a free-formed noncommercial online radio station at the University of Illinois. DJ’s do a variety of things on air from playing music to even discussing poetry. Talk and music are on air twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
The idea came along in late 2011 by students at the university. After two years of work the program was solidified and launched September 23rd of 2013. Program Director Alexis Hunzinger says she is thrilled to have had the station make it this far and looks forward to the future of the program. This is Hunzinger’s first year as being director and has been working constantly to make this semester’s on-air schedule the perfect mix. DJ’s play a variety of music such as Indie, Tasteful Techno, or Classic Metal.
It’s up to the DJ’s to come up with their name, show title, and type of music that will bring in listeners. To open up show space some DJs have even teamed with the same music to a dual person broadcast. For more information about Pizza and show times make sure to check out their website.
