Never too old for Cookie Monster!
By, Senait Gebregiorgis
For my How-To-Piece assignment I decided to do cookie monster cupcakes. (Cookie Monster is from Sesame Street, one of my favorite childhood shows!) I’ve been wanting to make these type of cupcakes for the longest now and since Halloween is around the corner I thought it would be a great idea to make them. I’ve been looking at Pinterest photos, and recipe websites for inspiration and decided to conduct it with the steps I chose.
Buying the ingredients was very expensive but I knew it would b worth it. As I was doing this project I realized how difficult it is to actually bake and record all at the same time. I didn’t want one ingredient left out of the picture, I didn’t want one step to be missing and I especially didn’t want any of my cupcakes to mess up for the camera. If I was going to present baking and incorporate food, everything had to look appetizing. I also live in University Housing so I had to use the smallest kitchen available ever, but I made it all work out.
Making the cupcakes however was really fun! I did a tester first and turned off the camera to see which technique was best for me to decorate the cupcakes after baking. Then once I felt confident to do it live, I hit the record button. I used a lot of tight shot so the viewers can see details and so the cakes can look so good. Watching it made my mouth water and I wanted the viewers to feel the same feeling. I also used several medium shots just to show the entire body of the cupcakes.
Editing for this assignment had to be one of the easiest from any of my other assignments I did in this class. Maybe because I was using several still shots and I enjoyed putting it together. I decided to have a bit of fun with this assignment as well. I would to incorporate some Sesame Street SOTs because I felt like it worked well with the shots and I wanted to get creative with the sounds I used. Overall this assignment was fun! I hope you like it! Watch my assignment 5 here! Enjoy!
