How to Perform a Card Trick

Amaze Your Friends and Family

image1   Card tricks are always a great way to pass the time. They also provide entertainment and priceless reactions when they are completed correctly. For my How-To video I decided to teach a pretty simple card trick that you can use on your roommates, friends, and family.

In a few basic steps this video will teach you how to guess a participants card. In order to land the card trick you’re going to have to make sure you have cards and an attention span. This trick requires you to remember two cards — your ‘key card’ and the participants card once you figure out what they chose. After that, all you need to know how to do is spell!

The first thing I noticed is that although this may be a fun thing to learn, it’s hard to get different/creative looking angles of cards while trying to show the correct technique. I tried my best to alternate between tight and medium shots since that’s really all I could work with.  I also tried to implement some b-roll in the beginning so my entire video had more than just the learning process.

Another thing I struggled with during the video was time. After I had filmed and was in the editing stage I realized how long my video was becoming. I had/wanted to add more b-roll and different angles of the cards but the explanation of the card trick took slightly longer than anticipated. This caused me to use more basic shots but I think it still worked in the end.

If I could do this project over I would probably try and think of a different topic where I could use a variety of more creative angles. Or I could’ve taught someone the card trick and then filmed them doing it while I tried to get different angles too.

Even with my issues with the project, I thought this was really fun and I can’t wait to see what I can learn from everyone’s videos!

Here’s my storyboard (that clearly portrays my artistic abilities).

Finally, here’s the link to the card trick.

Enjoy!
