Get An Extra Boost of Energy for Midterm Week

In the midst of all the cramming and anxiety, now’s the time when heading to the gym is the best alternative. The Activities and Recreation Center, known as ARC, has many options for students to take a step back, release some stress and get away from all the book and lecture notes.

With midterm season slowly approaching, the ARC is a great healthy distraction in maintaining a healthy lifestyle . Many students find that they don’t have time to make their way to the ARC, but even an hour a day will help give you more energy to finish that study guide. To motivate yourself a little more, follow the link to get going.

Heres why I chose to do my Video Essay at this Bakery.

In this assignment I visited a bakery in downtown Champaign. I always see it in passing while commuting to work and I’ve always wanted to go in. I decided that this would be a good place to  get B-Roll as well as an actuality. I walked in and I was immediately greeted by the Customer service Manager Hann. She introduced herself and then started telling me about the products they sell and the services that they offer. I asked her to shoot some footage and to do an interview and she said yes! I also got to try some desserts.

Farm Lake

Farm Lake, where many U of I students go to attend barn dances in the Fall, is filled with beautiful scenery. Not only is it a beautiful place, but there are peacocks running around everywhere!

This week, I had to take a trip to Farm Lake to drop off a check for my barn dance coming up later this week. I had never seen the grounds during the day, so I took the opportunity and dragged my camera along with me on my trek out into the woods. The owner of the farm, Loretta, was in her house with friends playing board games. She gave my friend Caroline and me permission to roam throughout her property, which we took full advantage of.

Adventures in Multimedia: Winter Walk Around the Quad

They say there’s beauty in the breakdown – and boy, did I breakdown. All weekend long I was worried about this video essay assignment and all the criterions we had to fulfill. Like most areas in life, I went into overthinking mode and couldn’t think of an idea or topic that I thought would be the most interesting and that would hit all the requirements.

A shot of the University of Illinois quad during winter – the main subject of my video essay.

As it was Valentine’s Day weekend, I went to Chicago. And while in Chicago, I thought about filming a billiards hall with its pool tables, bar, food and comedy shows. Pressure Billiards & Cafe was awarded Best Billiards in Chicago Reader’s Best of 2013 guide, and I thought that hit the points of uniqueness and prominence. Unfortunately, the videos had poor lighting. Plan B was to think of something back on campus, and Monday’s snowy weather proved to be an opportunity.
