UIUC Belegarth Celebrates 25 Years

The fantasy craze has exploded all across the globe. With the mass media being taken over by films like Lord of the Rings and with HBO’s Game of Thrones, Medieval fantasy has hit the ground running . Fans all over show their affection for Medieval fantasy by dressing up as their favorite characters and attending events like the Reniassance Fair or Comic con.  One specific group that has taken their affection to the next level is Belegarth, a fantasy-themed combat society.

Study: Processed foods may be expanding, hurting your gut

Despite the guilty feelings that come with them, sugary, processed breakfast foods like cereals and granola bars usually top the list of most people’s morning must-haves. But those guilty feelings are about to get a whole lot worse because with those types of breakfast foods come additives, and with additives may come various chronic inflammatory diseases, including those associated with obesity, according to research published last month in the journal Nature.

image1   Card tricks are always a great way to pass the time. They also provide entertainment and priceless reactions when they are completed correctly. For my How-To video I decided to teach a pretty simple card trick that you can use on your roommates, friends, and family.

In a few basic steps this video will teach you how to guess a participants card. In order to land the card trick you’re going to have to make sure you have cards and an attention span. This trick requires you to remember two cards — your ‘key card’ and the participants card once you figure out what they chose. After that, all you need to know how to do is spell!

How To Train a Dog

Dogs can be hard to train, but with the proper materials and information on the best way to train a pet, it can be fun!

My dog is extremely spoiled and was not trained very well by my family. I often get frustrated when she doesn’t know simple commands such as “sit” and “stay.” When I was home this past weekend, I decided enough was enough and brought my camera along while my sister attempted to teach her how to sit.

Oh boy, where do I begin with assignment five? This assignment probably took the most energy out of me in terms of filming, interviewing and editing. But, I think it was all a great preparation for what’s to come for assignment eight.

This week, the campus organization 1867 Society is hosting I Love Illinois Week to build school pride across the university. On Tuesday Feb. 25, at Ikenberry Commons, 1867 Society gave out 500 “I Love Illinois” tanks to students who donated a shirt from a different school. The day was dubbed “Give to Receive Day.”
