This is the only assignment all semester I was truly looking forward to, and actually enjoyed doing. I knew right away that I would do a recipe for my how-to…because who doesn’t love watching other people make food? I had no idea what recipe I would choose though. Assignment 2 was all about the image–we had to create a photo essay using a specific theme and of all things, I chose mine to be centered around breakfast 😀
For me breakfast is very fundamental to the start of my day because without it, I would be a hangry individual (cross between hungry and angry) and I wouldn’t be able to focus on my studies because all I would be able to think about is my stomach growling. With that being said, I took images as well as videos of some of my favorite things I like to eat in the morning whether I’m on the go, or I have a little more time to cook. My completed video without sound can be seen here.
If you actually want to hear the sounds of me cooking as well as my explanation of why I choose the items I eat everyday, then check this out.
I enjoyed doing this assignment because I really like breakfast. I didn’t run into many problems, except now looking back I was kind of shaky when capturing footage of the food. For example, when I titled the camera to film the chocolate chip pancakes, it was pretty shaky because I was holding it by hand. I will now work on controlling my camera.
A Typical Morning Getting Ready for class at the University of Illinois
Every morning there about 32,000 undergraduates at the University of Illinois on the move getting ready for the day. As children we often hear from our parents, “Eat your breakfast.” But as we get older and our lifestyles become more hectic many of us fall out of the habit of eating breakfast. This goes especially for college students many of whom are living alone for the first time and don’t have anyone to remind them to eat the most important meal of the day.
Breakfast might be the last thing on the mind of someone when they wake up an hour before class in the morning, but students really should make the extra 10 minutes to take a bite even if it is just cereal. The benefits of breakfast include improved grades, increased concentration, and weight maintenance. Check out more on the benefits of breakfast here.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why are an estimated 15 percent of Americans skipping this meal? 29 percent of the women who skip breakfast say they do not have time to eat in the morning because they are too busy getting ready. However, some studies show that skipping breakfast can increase your risk for diabetes and heart disease. Eating breakfast can increase your memory and can even help with weight loss.
The average breakfast eater will eat at 7:31am on the weekdays and 8:28 on the weekends. The most common breakfast foods are bread, eggs, bacon, and sausage. For those who need a simple breakfast routine, check out this video of a healthy, quick meal.
Multimedia journalism was never something I thought I would be interested in but after taking Professor Collins’ J410 class, I challenged myself and now have a handful of new skills I can impress my future employer with one day. This is my journey through the ups and downs of finding those skills.
