I am a complete health and fitness nut. Ever since the freshman 15 packed on a little unwelcome weight, I knew I had to change my eating and fitness habits. I was struggling on what to do my video on. My curiosity led me to wonder what the most searched how-to’s were. I wasn’t surprised to find that it was “how to lose weight.”

It’s always been a hobby to learn more about fitness and what makes a well-balanced diet. I decided to spin off the most famous search and create a quick guide for grocery shopping that can assist in building a well-balanced diet and in losing weight.

University of Illinois research shows that “one in 12 seniors do not have access to adequate food due to lack of money or other financial resources.” This unfortunate phenomenon is called food insecurity. Seniors with food insecurity have a higher likelihood of certain health issues, including diabetes, high cholesterol, gum disease and high blood pressure.

Supermarkets are often a go-to when shopping on a budget, however, some of these conventional markets lack in organic options. It is entirely possible for senior citizens to shop organic, get the necessary nutrients and not break the bank.
