College Campus Sexual Assaults: What the University of Illinois is doing to solve this issue
In recent months, University of Illinois students at Urbana-Champaign have received campus safety alerts on issues of sexual assaults, three to be exact. This grabbed the attention of not only the staff, students, and faculty of U of I but also well known media outlets like the Chicago Tribune and WGN TV. While these alerts and assaults are always devastating news to hear, U of I is trending upwards as one of the most invested and resource-rich universities that combats sexual assaults.

Racial and minority tensions have spiraled across the country in recent months. These tensions can be attributed to many different factors, but one thing is for sure, its played in a pivotal role in causing riots, un-peaceful protests and simple animosity towards one another. Workplaces, schools and especially college campuses are faced with the challenge of working together to unite all kinds in a peaceful format. Many diverse campuses, like the University of Illinois, have released statements in efforts to unify everyone. While these efforts have its impact, the Illini might have an unlikely solution: Chief Illiniwek.

When Professor Collins explained assignment two, I was pretty excited. This assignment I felt gave us our first opportunity to be creative and use our camera’s in anyway we wanted. Going into this class, I wasn’t really sure of what to expect. I thought, ‘Yeah we’ll probably do some writing, maybe a view voiceovers, just some boring stuff.’ But on my first day that mindset was immediately changed. During the first class period, we were handed an entire camera kit that contained a $2000 dollar camera. My eyes lit up. I cradled the camera like it was own baby. Yes, I have always had a knack for finer things in life and at the time was least expecting our journalism class to lend us such a nice camera for a whole semester, but this brought forth an excitement for a class here at UIUC I’ve never felt before.
