An Apron in an Afternoon

How do you make an apron in one afternoon? Well let me show you!

Hello! I am so excited to be able to teach you how to make a child’s apron! I loved this project. I’ve been sewing since I was a junior in high school and even though I don’t get a whole lot of time to sit down and sew, I get a thrill out of small projects like this one that don’t take up a whole lot of time. So I did spend most of the afternoon making this apron. I started about noon and finished at 6, but that was also because I wanted to film the steps for you.

How to do laundry like an Adult

screen-shot-2016-10-24-at-4-49-26-pmAre you that struggling college student who secretly doesn’t know how to do their own laundry? Or that freshman who put hand soap in the washer instead of detergent? Or just have no clue where to begin?

I’m here to help.

I’ve found that so many of my friends and fellow students in their attempt to be an “adult” actually do laundry all wrong. For a simple how to on the subject, watch my video hereContinue reading

No Place Like Home – Bid Day

img_3458It’s one of the craziest days on campus: Sorority Bid Day. When you get to run home to the house you wanted and start lifelong memories with new friends. As a freshman, it can be scary and awkward. But for the rest of us, it’s one of the happiest days of the year.

For Assignment 3 (video essay) in Professor Collin’s class, I wanted to capture the fun of Bid Day in my sorority, Alpha Phi. After having my life taken over by recruitment for the past couple of weeks, Bid Day is an amazing day where all the hard work pays off. I loved capturing how colorful and energetic this day was in my video, which you can watch here.

Assignment 2 Hilton

img_4337After this assignment I have learned a lot on using my camera to tell a story. This assignment required us to to take a sequence of shots with a common theme. I decided to focus my theme on “The Story of Dairy.” I began my sequence on the campus farm with pictures of grass and dairy cows, then I ended the video with pictures of milk and ice cream (products of dairy).

My topic is quite simple, so in order to make my video interesting I had to be creative in taking my pictures. I used a lot of different views and angles and tried add some action to the milk pictures. You can checkout out my assignment without sound without sound on YouTube.

One of the requirements was to incorporate natural sound, so I added some sound of the cows “mooing” and the pouring of milk. This project forced me to use my equipment in ways I never would have thought of before. Overall I learned a lot from this assignment, and most of all I enjoyed hanging out with the cows! You can checkout my project with sound on YouTube.

Caffe Bene, a very popular coffeehouse chain throughout East Asia opened its second outlet in campustown on Green Street. The first outlet is full almost every day and so they hope that a second location dead center of campus will help them reach out to more students. The new outlet will certainly add to the diversity of choice to students on campus who want to eat out or find a place to study.

Assignment 3 Reflection– Mroz

The thing I liked about this assignment is that it didn’t feel like an assignment at all. It was not only because I based my video essay on my brother’s wedding weekend. But it was more that I have enjoyed taking videos and pictures so much that it is more of a hobby for me than it is homework. I found myself taking videos of everything over the weekend because I wanted the memories and I am learning how to turn them into cool projects. I am finally getting used to my camera and am looking forward to what I am able to produce in upcoming weeks.

Grange Grove- Reflection Mroz

For this assignment, I chose to take pictures of Grange Grove, which is located outside of Memorial Stadium. I really enjoyed this assignment. The subject itself, Grange Grove, was something I am very familiar with and something I have experienced both on game days and on off days. For this reason, I think it was easier for me to fully engage my self in the photography. Since I chose a big area for my subject, it made it easier to get different angles and camera shots.

The only real issue I had with this assignment was exporting the video itself in order to upload it onto YouTube. However, Dr. Collins assisted me with this process, and the problem was easily solved.

This assignment was much less stressful than the first assignment was, and I have some nice photos as memories of one of my favorite places on campus as a result! I can already tell that I am really going to enjoy this class. The assignments are more than just homework, but things that I can really build off of and use to my advantage to build a great portfolio.

Grange Grove, Memorial Stadium, Champaign, IL

Grange Grove

For my photo essay assignment, I chose to capture the essence of Grange Grove located outside of Memorial Stadium. On a game day, Grange Grove and its surrounding area is crowded with countless Illini fans covering the area in orange. The time I chose to take these photos was different because it wasn’t on a Saturday afternoon before the Illinois football team kicks off. Instead, I took these photos on a Sunday evening when the sky was dimmed, and the only life around the stadium was mostly that of cars passing by on their way back to campus.

With the stadium lit with orange and blue reflection lights throughout the front panels, the gold Red Grange statue stands out amongst the grassy field and walkway leading up to it.

As the night comes to a close, the sky goes dark, but Memorial Stadium remains lit to brighten the south end of campus. It may be quiet now, but come Saturday, Grange Grove will once again be filled with Illini fans of all ages patiently waiting for yet another Illinois win.
