A Unique Way to Support Special Olympic Athletes

For the past 15 years, tens of thousands of people have been taking a plunge into icy waters to raise money for Special Olympic athletes. 10.2 million dollars has been raised through this event. Participants of the must raise at least 75 dollars from family, friends, and co-workers to be eligible to run into the frigid water.

The Illinois Polar Plunge

How Chilled Civilians Can Help the Special Olympics

People running through the chilly lakes of Illinois, and also raising money for a great cause!

Illinois civilians have been freezin’ for a reason at the 15th annual Polar Plunge.

From February 21st through March 23rd, people gathered together to help raise money for Special Olympics Illinois. Participants were required to raise at least $75 in order to participate in the Polar Plunge, which involved running through a lot of chilly Illinois lakes. (20 lakes were included this year!)

Throughout the last 15 years, approximately $10.2 million have been raised by the Illinois PolarPlunge. This money goes to support Special Olympics Illinois, who work to provide an athletic outlet for people with intellectual disabilities.
