Recognizing the Importance of Women Everywhere

Women’s History Month is celebrated nation-wide throughout the month of March. The University of Illinois’ Women’s Resources Center organized a number of events this month to recognize local women and girls who have strengthened UIUC’s campus and community.   Wednesday night, the WRC hosted a Women’s History Month Kick Off Event at the School of Information Sciences to celebrate women and International Women’s Day.  This year’s theme is Be Bold For Change.  The Champaign based musical group, Love  Handles, came out to perform feminist-powered songs.   Continue reading

40 Days for Life is a multi-faith, multi-church, international collaboration that takes place for 40 days each spring and each fall in countries all over the world. People come together to pray for an end to abortion outside Planned Parenthood on the corner of Third St. and Stoughton St. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.

Fall Festival parades through southern Illinois community

For Johnson County in southern Illinois, the first week of October is more than just the start of a new month. It’s the beginning of the area’s biggest fall celebration: the Fall Festival.

This year, despite cold temperatures and blistery winds, the festival’s main attraction, the parade, went off without a hitch and was one of the best in recent years according to many locals.

It seems that bad weather is becoming the calling card of the parade, as this is not the first year mother nature has not complied.

Baby steps to now walking in the shoes of a multimedia journalist

Coming into multimedia class, I had prior knowledge of using Final Cut Express from working at the Daily Illini, but it proved to be one of my weaknesses, hopefully by the end of the semester I can make that weakness become a strength.
